Jerry's keynote speech was totally engaging, beautifully delivered, extremely well prepared and equally well received by a packed room of genuinely enthused young Koreans. (It was literally standing room only.) With a perfect blend of subtle humour and interesting facts delivered in an easy to digest format backed up with some excellent slides his presentation was spot on. Biography
Jerry Kaplan, Ph.D., is widely known as an Artificial Intelligence expert, serial entrepreneur, technical innovator, educator, bestselling author, and futurist. He invented several ground-breaking technologies including handheld tablet computers, online auctions, and electronic musical instruments. Currently, he is an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University where he teaches social and economic impact of Artificial Intelligence.
Kaplan founded several technology startups over his forty-year career, two of which became publicly traded companies. He is the author of the best-selling classic "Startup: A Silicon Valley Adventure" (Houghton-Mifflin, 1995), named one of the top ten business books by Business Week. His book "Humans Need Not Apply: A Guide to Wealth and Work in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", published by Yale University Press, was selected by The Economist magazine as one of the top ten science and technology books of 2015. His book, "Artificial Intelligence: What Everyone Needs to Know” (Oxford University Press, 2016) was an Amazon New Release #1 Bestseller in Artificial Intelligence. His latest book is “Generative Artificial Intelligence: What Everyone Needs to Know” (Oxford University Press, forthcoming). His opinion pieces have been published in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post, among other publications.
Kaplan holds an MSE and PhD in Computer and Information Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Chicago.
