Tim Schurrer
Biography

Tim Schurrer is on a mission to redefine success.

As the author of The Secret Society of Success and host of the Build a Winning Team podcast, Tim challenges the conventional belief that success is measured by status, recognition, or climbing the ladder. Instead, he invites people to consider “helping others win” as the North Star for how they live and lead.

Tim serves as CEO of David Novak Leadership, the organization founded by former Yum! Brands CEO David Novak. Through its leadership development programs and the How Leaders Lead podcast, Tim helps equip leaders at every stage of life to make a greater impact.

He also co-created a leadership development program with the NFL designed to help coaches and front-office staff lead with purpose and serves as an advisor to Chief Cares, the bold housing initiative founded by Eric Church to help western North Carolina families rebuild after Hurricane Helene.

Each week, Tim gains unique access to some of the world's most accomplished leaders through conversations with guests such as Tom Brady, Condoleezza Rice, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Jamie Dimon, Mary Barra, Deion Sanders, Whitney Wolfe Herd, and hundreds of others. Drawing from those insights, Tim helps audiences discover what success truly is—and what it isn't.

Prior to his current role, Tim spent a decade as COO alongside New York Times bestselling author Donald Miller, helping launch and scale StoryBrand and Business Made Simple. Earlier in his career, he worked with brands including Apple and TOMS Shoes. He has spoken to organizations such as Chick-fil-A, Southwest Airlines, and many others, helping leaders and teams embrace a more meaningful definition of success.

Whether you're a leader looking to empower your team, a professional feeling trapped by cultural expectations, or someone who longs for deeper fulfillment in your work, Tim offers a paradigm shift. His message? Success and satisfaction are not about what you achieve, but how you serve and impact others along the way.

Tim lives in Kansas City with his wife, Katie, and their two kids.

Redefining Success
Why the Best Leaders Help Others Win

We’ve been taught to think of success as a climb: get the promotion, earn the recognition, build the platform, achieve more.
But what if the most successful people aren’t the ones most focused on their own success?

Drawing on his own unlikely career journey and lessons from some of the world’s most accomplished leaders, Tim Schurrer challenges the conventional definition of success and offers a more powerful one: helping others win.

Through memorable stories from business, sports, entertainment, and Tim’s own leadership experiences, audiences will discover why the best leaders don’t need to be the center of attention to make an extraordinary impact. They learn to recognize the people around them, use failure as information, pursue excellence without needing the credit, and measure their influence one life at a time.

This isn’t a call to lower your ambition. It’s an invitation to aim it somewhere better.

Audiences will leave with a practical new framework for how to pursue success, lead others, and build a career that is both high-performing and deeply meaningful.

The Secret Society of Success

by Tim Schurrer

Tim Schurrer, right-hand man to Donald Miller and vp of talent management and culture at StoryBrand, introduces readers to the Secret Society, a community of people who have learned a new way of defining success--where we stop chasing money, fame, and power and discover meaning and fulfillment in the work we do.

There's a message getting a lot of airtime these days. It says to be successful, you have to step into the spotlight, climb the ladder, become the boss, or whatever version of success that's been dangled in front of you in your career. The problem is, this creates a Spotlight Mindset--or an unhealthy desire for attention and recognition. You work so hard to impress others or chase the next raise or promotion that you end up exhausted, frustrated, and unhappy. But what if there was a different way of defining success?

In The Secret Society of Success, Tim Schurrer invites us to reevaluate our professional moves and learn a new, freer way to navigate our lives. How do we learn this approach? With the Secret Society as our guides--a community of people who know what it feels like to make a difference, whether they have the spotlight or not. The Secret Society will teach you to:

  • define success for yourself;
  • work hard and contribute to your team without minding who gets the credit;
  • make an impact regardless of the size of your stage or platform;
  • stop chasing money, fame, and power and discover meaning and fulfillment in the work that you do;
  • navigate living in the tension between contentment and striving; and
  • go from feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and restless in your job to being confident in the role you play and the value you bring to the team.

You can learn a new way to define success that's counter to what culture is selling. Through stories of people like Alan Mulally, the former CEO of Ford, NBA all-star LeBron James, Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and people whose names you've never heard of, you will discover that the success you're looking for is within your reach, wherever you are and whatever your role.

Why should I partner with Premiere Speakers Bureau rather than contacting speakers directly?

The speaker covers our commission from their standard honorarium as payment for our role in marketing and managing their engagements.

How are speaker fees structured, and what is typically included?

A speaker's fee typically covers the keynote presentation, a pre-event planning call, and standard customization. Travel expenses are usually billed separately.

What are the standard policies for speaker travel and expenses?

Travel expenses are negotiated during contracting. We generally recommend a flat travel fee for simplicity, though we also offer line-by-line invoicing when preferred. PSB ensures these expenses adhere to professional standards, and our Event Portal allows for easy tracking and invoicing.
