Business Activity:
He is the founder and CEO of Preverity, Inc. Preverity, located in Nashville, TN, is a health care analytic firm comprised of data scientists that has created the market leading risk prediction platform for medical malpractice in the US serving commercial malpractice insurers. He serves on the board of directors, chaired by Dr. Art Laffer.
Prof. Van Horn, has extensive board experience, serving on both public and private boards. Since its founding, he has been Governance Committee Chair, and Compensation Committee Member for Community Health Care Realty Trust (NYSE: CHCT). He serves as Compensation Committee Chair, and Audit Committee Member for Quorum Health Corporation (NYSE: QHC) until July of 2020. He is Board Chair for Savida Inc., a PE backed MAT opioid treatment company with locations in MA, NH, VT, DE, and VA. He is a member of the CEO Council for Council Capital, and advisory boards for Harpeth Capital and Council Capital.
Business and Health Policy:
Prof. Van Horn has advised the state of TN on health policy and worked with the Trump administration on issues related to price transparency in health care markets. He met regularly with the White house, HHS, and FTC on this topic. On June 24th he was asked by the president to speak at the signing of the executive order on health care price transparency.
Academic Activity:
His current research focus centers around the shift to consumer purchase of health care and the impact it will have on new delivery models. His research has appeared in such leading journals ranging from the Journal of Health Economics, to the New England Journal of Medicine, to the Harvard Business Review. His commentary regarding health care economics appears frequently in main stream media ranging from USA Today to Fox Business.
Professor Van Horn is responsible for the graduate health care programs at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. He founded and directs the Center for Healthcare Market Innovation at the Owen Graduate School of Management. He also holds courtesy appointments in both the medical and law schools, Professor Van Horn is a highly sought-after speaker on the topic of health care reform and markets for national associations and corporations. He has consulted with many of the largest hospital systems and insurers in the US on topics of data analysis as well as antitrust concerns. Together with Sen. Bill Frist Prof. Van Horn Co-directs the Nashville Healthcare Council Fellows Program.
