Former Kidnap Victim Elizabeth Smart Discusses Educating Children on "Anderson"

Article from AndersonCooper.com

Elizabeth Smart appears on today's "Anderson" via satellite, and strongly urges parents to speak to their kids about the dangers of kidnapping. "I think you should be talking with your child every day, and helping them to understand that if they ever feel uncomfortable, they need to leave [the situation]. They need to realize that they are the most important thing in your life, that they are absolutely irreplaceable."

Smart, who was kidnapped from her home at the age of 14 and found nine months later, adds that parents also need to teach their children how to physically react once they sense danger, saying, "The child should be able to break, push over, whatever it is -- to raise attention to themselves."

The 24-year-old, recently married to Matthew Gilmore, tells Anderson, "I'm very happy."
