Bob Miller is a speaker and a marketing and operations executive with over 30 years of corporate marketing and brand management experience in consumer products (P&G, Anheuser-Busch), consumer entertainment (Harrah's), business to business service marketing (FedEx) and global OEM marketing (General Motors' Delphi Delco Electronics). His entrepreneurial experience includes Internet start-ups in New York and San Francisco. After serving as SVP, Global Marketing at Tele Atlas NV, a digital map database company, he started Robert A. Miller | Brand Consulting in 2005.
From 1996-98, Bob Miller served as Vice President / General Director, Marketing & Sales at Delco Electronics, a $5.3 billion automotive electronics firm which is now a part of Delphi Systems, a former General Motors Company. At Delco Electronics, he was responsible for global marketing. He also held sales responsibilities for products sold to General Motors North America, which represented almost 80% of Delco's revenues.
Before joining Delco, Miller was Vice President, Marketing - The Americas and Caribbean at Federal Express (1991-95), the express transportation pioneer known for its marketing innovation, operational excellence and customer intimacy. Bob Miller's role and scope at FedEx included shared revenue responsibility for over $6 billion, customer value management for 4 million FedEx shippers, product strategic direction, and overall brand image and positioning. Bob's marketing team at FedEx changed its brand name/corporate identity from Federal Express to FedEx. Miller also installed a customer segment database marketing system focused on leveraging the full asset value of the company's customer base. Additionally, he initiated a retail expansion effort using alliances with well-know retail stores like Kinko's to extend FedEx's reach, and also launched the company's first web site in 1994, one of the web's first acclaimed transactional sites featuring the FedEx package tracking capability.
He has also been a marketing Vice President at Harrah's, the gaming entertainment concern known for its customer relationship management and operational excellence.
Miller began his marketing career at Procter & Gamble. There, he worked on established brands like Secret Deodorant as well as test market brands. He has held management positions with Anheuser-Busch Companies and Schering-Plough Corporation, and was responsible for developing and launching new products for both.
In 1994, Miller was named by Advertising Age as one of the Top 100 Marketers in the United States.
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics/business administration from LeMoyne-Owen College in 1976. In 1979, he was awarded a master of business administration, marketing, from Atlanta University School of Business Administration (now known as Clark-Atlanta University). Miller lives in Memphis with his wife Margie.
