It’s getting hectic out there, folks, and you can easily add these 4 techniques to apply mindfulness to improve your life and sales. Between work demands, kids and family, traffic, bills, politics, and social media, sometimes we end up running around like chickens with our heads cut off. We are overwhelmed by the past or fears of the future, confused by the many demands on our attention and time, scatter-brained by all the stimulus in our world--the opposite of the calm focus necessary to accomplish anything in our lives and sales career.
One practice that is becoming more popular is mindfulness, a way of being present in our bodies and aware of everything around us, without freaking out or feeling overwhelmed by it all.
Imagine a Labrador retriever in a crowded lake, fetching a stick for its master. The dog is completely focused on its task, yet simultaneously aware of everything going on in its environment--people swimming, fishing, kids splashing, windsurfers whipping past, motorboats and water skiers. The dog is not distracted but doggedly powers through the water to get that stick back to its owner. That is mindfulness--staying focused on the task at hand while remaining calm, grounded, yet completely aware of multiple events occurring around us.
There are lots of simple methods to practice mindfulness available in books, magazines, and on the internet. Some are as easy as sitting in a comfortable position while being aware of your body touching the seat, your feet resting on the floor, and your arms resting at your side. Another is to focus on your breath, in and out, pulling your concentration back to your breath when it wanders. These techniques can improve your ability to stay grounded and calm in the middle of the circus that modern life has become. Mindfulness can help you stay focused and calm in the middle of a sales call when your client becomes stressed out by her busy life, or his stressful employer.
So while you might not be ready to squeeze that beer gut into a pair of yoga pants and head down to the nearest yoga studio, simple things like walking in a park or forest, being aware of your mind in your body in the world, and focusing on your breathing, can all contribute to your being the calm in the storm of life and remaining focused on your results. My Prosperity Mindset Training includes tools like the Quiet Time Ritual which also harnesses the power of mindfulness to help you focus.
