I co-founded Give More Media Inc. in early 1998 after selling for more than a decade in several different industries (financial services, pharmaceuticals, joint replacements, office products, and software). In the beginning, we built an online community and resource for sales executives, managers, and professionals. It was (and is) called JustSell.com. Over time, we developed and added other content rich websites to our portfolio in order to help several different leadership audiences. Our revenue was primarily driven by corporate sponsorships.
Several years ago (as a side project), I wrote what became an important book to a lot of different people and organizations - 212 the extra degree (how a little extra effort and attention can have a big impact on results). That was the first step to where we are today... a committed group of people in Richmond, Virginia focused on creating ideas and material that help leaders and organizations inspire extra effort, more care, and accountability.
My other popular messages include Smile & Move (a reminder to happily serve), Lead Simply (a day-to-day, in-the-trenches framework for creating and developing that special team of people that does great work), Cross The Line (a commitment to go beyond expectations in whatever we do), and Love Your People (a call to care more for the people we lead and serve). All of them are available at GiveMore.com.
I live in Richmond, Virginia with my wife Jennifer (an artist) and our 3 kids (although one is in and out of the house with college now). There's an 85-pound dog in the mix too - a Labradoodle named Sesto (it means sixth in Italian ... as in sixth member of the family). He's very cool.
I have a degree in business from James Madison University and have been obsessed with organizational behavior for the last 20 years.
Inspire a little extra effort and attention.
212° the extra degree® can help you inspire your faculty and staff to embrace the value of the extra effort and attention that goes into creating great results. It begins with the premise, "At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. And with boiling water, comes steam. And with steam, you can power a train. Just one extra degree makes all the difference." Be two-twelve and enjoy more as a result.
Smile & Move® can help you encourage your faculty and staff to be more positive and service-oriented in their efforts with each other and their students. There are 5 ways to smile (attitude-based) and 4 ways to move (action-based). To help you introduce, support, and reinforce the message, there's a small book, a short video, posters, pocket cards, and wristbands. Smoving (as it's come to be known) is a reminder to happily serve.
Cross The Line® can help you encourage your faculty and staff to commit to going beyond mediocrity in everything they do. There are 4 keys to Crossing The Line – choose to commit, work hard, focus, bounce back. To help you introduce, support, and reinforce the message, there's a small booklet, a short video, posters, pocket cards, and wristbands. It all begins with a line ... a line you want to cross.
