From Politico:
Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is warning the GOP to not get “too giddy” over Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts, saying it is more likely a signal of President Barack Obama’s “reelection.”
Huckabee set a more sober tone for his party’s prospects than many of his fellow Republicans following a week that saw Brown’s election to the Senate seat once held by Sen. Ted Kennedy during an interview Thursday with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren.
“I want to be careful to not let Republicans get too giddy,” Huckabee said.
The former , Arkansas governor predicted that Brown’s election “was the beginning of the end of the Democratic domination of Congress” but said he doubts it will impact the president.
“Let me go on a limb and tell you, this is probably the beginning of the re-election of Barack Obama,” Huckabee said, explaining that Obama is “going to have to make course corrections that will likely put him in a much better position in his reelection bid than he would have been had he continued on this Pelosi-Reid led disastrous trip off the cliff.”
Huckabee also told Republicans to be careful to not take the support that Brown got from the tea party movement for granted.
“Each individual candidate has to bring the tea party members into the fold,” he said.
Huckabee called the tea parties “the most positive [thing] I’ve seen in my life time in politics.”
