"A simple formula for innovation? Imagination, ingenuity & initiative!" Futurist Jim Carroll
Use your creativity to think about what's possible. Figure out a really unique way to do it. Then, actually carry through with your plan!
That's it. That's all you need to do.
I deal with so many people who seem to get stuck, and don't know where to start – whether it’s with a change in career, the pursuit of new business models, or the development of a new product or service.
They become bogged down in thinking about the potential complexity of what needs to be done, without realizing that it might not be that difficult after all – if they just get moving!
The first step – imagination – is difficult for many people, simply because we are always told to conform, 'toe the line,' to 'stay in our lane'. Individuality, it seems, is abhorred by many. But imagination is the root of all ideas – obviously.
The second step – ingenuity – becomes a challenge, because we're often not allowed to show our creative side. We are told there is a 'right way' to do things, and yet that way is usually a pathway for failure. Ingenuity is the root of all creativity.
The third? Don't get me going on that one – don't let aggressive indecision ruin your future! Initiative is the root of all activity.
Don't get bogged down and overwhelmed by the challenge of doing something new. Instead, break it down into three smaller, digestible activities, and you'll discover it's easy to get started.
And often, simply getting started is the spark that will fire up your eventual success!
