Jeff is the principal of Nelda Mundy Elementary School. He taught for ten years as an elementary school teacher in grades 4, 5, and 6 and has seven years of administrative experience. Jeff strives to connect with students by bringing real-world experiences to them, getting to know their names, engaging in lessons and play, and becoming a part of the learning process with them. He's always looked at education from a different lens: from someone who hated and struggled with school. Jeff vows to always do his best to help increase opportunities for all students to feel heard, noticed, celebrated, challenged and safe.
Jeff works hard to push back against the old model of "Industrialized Education" and fight compliance. There is not a day that goes by that he is not looking ahead to improve teacher pedagogy, student engagement and digital access for all. Being a former world-class swimmer and coach, Jeff looks at education from perspectives that others don't. Knowing what it takes to fail, struggle, win and go through the daily challenges that we all face (look at the '88 Olympic Trials in swimming/Jeff Kubiak/200 Breaststroke).
Jeff loves children's literature and "One Drop of Kindness" is his first published children's book. He hopes to continue writing books that bring about inspiring others to help make our world a better place.
Jeff shares his story of Gus, the Kindness Kid from his award winning book, One Drop of Kindness and how to implement Kindness and Empathy into a school community from Day 1. Not only are these traits imperative and necessary as building blocks for student success, they are components often missing from our educational roadmap. You will be given fun, easy to implement ideas, practices and elements for schools to use today, and as future growth models.
