Best-selling author and entrepreneur Stacy Allison has the kind of challenges that many never get to experience. By the age of twenty two, she had successfully summited Mount McKinley and Ama Dablam just one year after starting alpine climbing. Shortly after, Stacy became the first American woman to summit the tallest peak in the Russian Pamir Range!
She then went on to becoming the first American woman to top the deadliest peak of them all: Mount Everest. During her first attempt at reaching the summit with Northwest American Everest Expedition, a treacherous snow storm trapped Stacy and her team in a cave for five days until they were finally forced to turn around. After twenty-nine day second attempt, they reached the summit on September 29th, 1988.
In addition to her impressive accomplishments in alpine climbing, Stacy Allison is the president of Allison General Contracting, Board of Trustees member as well as Chairperson of The Oregon Lung Association’s “Reach the Summit” event. Stacy recently gave the closing keynote at PMI Global Congress where she shared her experiences and spoke to professionals in project management. She also spoke about the ways in which her experiences on the mountain have influenced her career and drive to succeed:
“If you don’t have a personal vision, if you don’t believe in your project and the transformational change that it will bring to your organization,” she said, then negativity will bring you down every single time. When you’re not worried about your own success, it frees you up to do the job you need to do at any given time. No matter what our objectives are in this life, personally and professionally, they boil down to what we’re willing to risk. What are you willing to risk, and what’s the benefit to that risk? The world is going to be changed by each and every one of you."
Stacy received extremely positive feedback from attendees, as is consistent with any event that she happens to be a part of. Her enthralling stories on and off the mountain paired with her down-to-earth sense of humor is sure to capture a multitiude of audiences!
