Roger knows that successful advocacy can change the world, it is his life's passion as the Founder & President of Voices in Advocacy , author of 7 Actions of Highly Effective Advocates and Host of the Voices in Advocacy Podcast. He has more than 30 years of experience as a professional speaker, trainer, consultant, and author. As a recognized expert in advocacy engagement and grassroots activation, Roger works with a wide cross-section of organizations from diverse industries. His vibrant personality and a good sense of humor make for engaging and interactive programming that is packaged and delivered in an easy to understand, easy to apply format combining his education, experience, and enthusiasm to drive advocacy success. Roger is a proud Penn State Nittany Lion and self-confessed political junky having received his education in Political Science. He has been an advocate for citizen involvement since the age of 13. He was elected three times to public office as a young man, served as a state legislative staff member, and have worked on many political campaigns from his very own clear up to presidential campaigns. He has served in numerous industry associations' leadership roles, is a recipient of several international industry awards, and is a member of Meeting Professional International's prestigious "Community of Honoree's". He is often interviewed by radio, print and television media, highlighted by the MSNBC show Your Business. Smart Meetings Magazine did a cover story on Roger, entitled Passion & Purpose, Roger Rickard's Call to Action. Successful Meetings Magazine named Roger one of the Six People Worth Watching in the Meetings Industry. Meetings Focus Magazine named him to their inaugural list of Meetings Trendsetters. He is often called upon to comment on or write about the advocacy issues of the day. How do we create the influence needed to support long term viability? Inspire, educate, engage, and activate your supporters by turning them into effective, influential advocates.

1. Believe
You can make a difference. Willingness to fight for your beliefs, defend a cause, stand up, express your opinion or share your story; you have a choice to act purposefully. You have to believe that it matters if you take action.

2. Be Informed
Read and research. When you have a passion for something, you are driven to search out more information and opinions on the topic. Being informed enables you to effectively speak on behalf of your issue.

3. Discuss the Issues
Spread the word. Share your information amongst peer groups and friends. Talk with them and listen to their views about these issues.

4. Get on the Record
Write, speak out, and act. Your passion or opinion about your cause and issue should be on the record. Your voice should be on the record!

5. Be a Resource
Provide expertise. Think of the knowledge and experience you can bring to the table. Your voice will be magnified as you earn your way towards social and political change by being a resource.

6. Volunteer
Play a part for the cause. One of the best commitments you can make is your time. Giving time, energy, or talent to any individual or group for which the individual is not paid defines volunteerism.
