Circle of Life
On Monday, I enjoy a long over-due lunch with a friend I’ve known for more than 30 years. She buried her husband a month ago, after giving him around-the-clock care for three years after he suffered a stroke in 2010.
On Wednesday at 3:39 pm our daughter gave birth to our sixth grandchild a 10 pound boy…James Timothy…named after his father and his grandfather (my husband Tim).
On Sunday, Father’s Day, I will put my 86 year old father and my 84 year old mother on an airplane to Tennessee. They are moving back to Nashville after a 20 year stint in their native Texas to be near more family members. They’ve lived within one mile of us for the past ten years…six of those years right across the street.
Quite an eventful week, wouldn’t you agree?
As I ponder all of this, I’m reminded of the lyrics to Sir Elton John’s iconic song ‘Circle of Life’ from The Lion King:
“In the circle of life
It’s the wheel of fortune
It’s the leap of faith
It’s the band of hope
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle, the circle of life”
I don’t know what it is like to bury a husband.
I don’t know what it is like to give birth to a fourth child…I had only two, and neither weighed in at 10 pounds!
I am not getting on an airplane to Nashville, Tennessee on Father’s Day.
But this much I know…I believe Sir Elton nailed it with those lyrics.
