How do great leaders become great?
There are thousands of theories on what makes a great leader, but one rings true to my experience more than the rest.
New York Times bestselling author Tommy Spaulding believes it's through the way we love, serve and elevate others.
I couldn't agree more, and I am so thrilled to have him on The Next 24 Hours for a very special episode.
He's sharing the story of the National Leadership Academy, the annual conference he puts on for high school students from all walks of life. I've been honored to kick off the conference with my keynote every year for the past nine years, and each of my three children have attended and left profoundly impacted.
Oliver, my 16-year-old, shared with me that it was amazing to spend two days with 110 strangers from all over the world who quickly became close friends once they were vulnerable with each other and shared their stories--or their “realsume” as I call it.
No phones, no isolation. Just leadership lessons, new friends and community service. (Parents of teens, you know what a big deal this is!)
As you have probably already guessed, due to COVID-19, the National Leadership Academy will not be taking place this year.
But instead, Tommy is taking an unprecedented journey this summer to keep the heart of NLA alive in the midst of a pandemic. He's sharing what that journey is on episode #49: Heart-Led Leadership in a Socially-Distanced World.
I know this episode will inspire you as we find new ways to serve and grow together post-pandemic.
You can find it on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Or, tune in through the player below.
