One of my favorite insights on Tuesday came from Luvvie Ajayi. She pushed people like me - people of privilege, especially in senior positions - to recognize moments when the viewpoints of others could be excluded and to choose to "stand in the gap"and make sure every voice is heard. Speak up for others who might experience more backlash than you would for speaking out. It's a behavior I commit to practicing. Count me in.

I knew I was in for something unusual. Little did I know how powerful this next hour was going to be...As I moved forward, I lost sight of all those behind me, I could no longer see if they were moving forward or back after each question. I had lost the perspective and the benefit of seeing and knowing their experiences. This was a reminder that I am surrounding by people I'm not consciously seeing everyday. Good people with amazing stories, talents, ideas.

Where Luvvie really shines is in her masterful inquiry once the questions end. People are feeling vulnerable and waking up to realizations about things they may have never considered before. Luvvie adeptly draws out those thoughts and adds just enough commentary from her own life experience to give it context and make people feel safe. It's almost like not breaking a powerful spell that's cast on a whole crowd. Few people could pull it off, but Luvvie is a true expert!

...It's an effective exercise that can impact people, from ALL walks, in multiple ways: from spiritual, to personal, to career. I am immensely grateful for it
Nikkole Denson-Randolph - VP of Alternative Content, AMC
I was inspired by the ability to really identify what "privilege" means. Moreover, I was moved by her ability to transform the room to a true safe space to then sit in all our "stuff" and remove all the layers of protection to be vulnerable. I didn't feel alone...It was honest and pure and so right on time!"
