Matt Hammitt is a singer, songwriter, author and speaker. He is the former lead singer of the Grammy-nominated, Dove Award-winning band, Sanctus Real.Matt has released three solo albums, and is the author of the book,Lead Me: Finding Courage to Fight for Your Marriage, Children, and Faith. (Waterbrook Multnomah, 2020)
In 2016, Matt stepped away from Sanctus Real to be more present at home.Matt and Sarah Hammitt have four children, and have been married for 21 years.
Since leaving the band, Matt has been invited as a keynote speaker at over 300 marriage, mens, and pro-life events. Matt has been featured by Focus on the Family, FamilyLife’s Weekend to Remember, Kirk Cameron’s Living Room Reset, ABC News, Fox News, CBN, and the YouVersion Bible App. He also acts a Mission Ambassador for the national pro-life organization, Save the Storks, while developing their Dare to Be a Dad program, for men involved in unplanned pregnancies.
The Hammitt family is featured in the new documentary,Bowen’s Heart, which offers a deeply vulnerable view of how chronic illness impacts an entire family. This feature length documentary film follows (a then eight-year-old) Bowen, through his third major open-heart surgery as Matt and Sarah struggle with the hope that the surgery could make his life better, along with the knowledge that it could make things much worse.
