Former supermodel Kathy Ireland was honored for her pro-life stance at Live Action’s Life Awards Gala, where she was presented with an award.
“As a young adult, I identified as a pro-choice Christian,” CBN’s Faithwire reported of Ireland. “It just shows you the state of our nation. How does that happen?”
However, as she read the Bible more and her relationship with God deepened, she realized that the pro-choice position is antithetical to God’s word.
“We’ve got to wake up our churches,” Ireland said. “We’ve got to wake up!”
Although Ireland is pro-life, she recognizes that women who have had abortions need to understand God’s forgiveness offered in the gospel.
“To the women who’ve had abortions—the estimation is one-in-four—just know that nothing is too big for God,” she expressed. “We bring it to him; we repent. He redeems and restores.”
In February, at the Movieguide® Awards, Ireland told Fox News that Jesus is the most important relationship in her life.
“The most important relationship in my life is with Jesus and though I became a Christian at 18…I am so grateful that God is so patient and so gracious,” Ireland declared.
“I love that Scripture tells us ‘The one who is forgiven much, loves much,’ so I love a whole bunch,” she added.
“Without Him, I don’t know. I certainly wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t be anywhere,” she finished. “His love is unconditional, and it’s there for anyone to receive it. He’s there with open arms for everybody.”
Live Action’s Life Awards Gala honors those who have defended life.
“Each life awardee was carefully selected for their courage, commitment, and sacrifice to help create a world where every child is treasured,” Live Action Vice President of External Relations Kimberly Bird said. “These inspiring honorees have shown uncompromising and compassionate defense of preborn children and their families through their dedicated work and courageous impact.”
After the event, Ireland wrote on Instagram, “So grateful to Lila Rose and the Live Action Team. This beautiful award belongs to everyone who is praying, working, loving and protecting precious babies and their moms. Every life has value. Equal rights for every life.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Ireland’s faith journey:
Former model Kathy Ireland recently shared the moment she became a Christian and how faith has changed her life.
“Late at night, out of jetlag and boredom, I realized my mom had packed a Bible in my suitcase,” Ireland said while appearing on ERIC METAXAS ON TBN, referring to a modeling trip to Paris she took when she was just 18.
Ireland continued, “My mom had just become Christian, from a woman at nursing school. Never read a Bible in my life, didn’t know how to read it. I was a rebellious teenager, questioning who really knows what’s right.”
She opened the Bible to the Gospel of Matthew and began reading.
“I knew that what I was holding in my hands was the truth,” Ireland said of that moment. “And there was no one in that room with me telling me, you know, ‘Be this denomination or that denomination.’ It was just, ‘I love Jesus. I want to follow Him,’ and He became my Lord and Savior and best friend.”
She continued, “That relationship gave me the courage to walk away from situations that were not right. It gave me—in that situation where I was—it gave me the opportunity to rebel against unhealthy situations, like, ‘No, I’m not going to your party!’”
