Cris Carter

One of the great wide receivers in this history of the NFL, Cris Carter earned seven consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl (1993-99).

He was presented the first Walter Payton Man of the Year Award by the NFL, recognizing him for his charitable works off the field as well as his character. He was named the 1999 recipient of the Byron "Whizzer" White Award by the NFL Players Association and ranks fourth in NFL history with 924 career receptions. He ranks 4th in NFL history for career catches behind Jerry Rice, Andre Reed, and Art Monk. He ranks 2nd in NFL history with 114 touchdown receptions, ranking behind only Rice's 169. He holds nearly every Viking receiving record, including career receptions with 835, career receiving yards with 10,238 and most total career touchdowns with 95. Only Jerry Rice caught more passes in the decade of the '90s than Carter's 835.

Cris became Christian in the spring of 1988 after his rookie year in the NFL. His teammates Keith Byars and Reggie White were intstrumental in leading him to Christ. "I was still holding onto the world. It took me awhile to realize that giving your life to Christ and being fully committed to Him are two different things."

"I can't really point to an incident or moment that caused me to see that I needed to make a new commitment to the Lord, but I knew I needed to make my home life better."

"I now have a purpose in life, and it is to use the platform I have been given so that God's name might be glorified. God calls me to be truthful, to be frank and to step out in faith. I am responsible to use my influence and my resources for His glory."
