What a privilege it was to have Alex come to Charlotte and engage believers in our city on so many levels. The thread that wove all of his messages together was the cross of Jesus Christ and our responsibility to live powerfully for Him.
Alex Kendrick has dedicated his life to following Jesus Christ and making His truth and love known among the nations. After serving in church ministry for 20 years, he now writes, speaks, and produces Christian films with his brothers Stephen and Shannon. Alex directed and co-wrote the movies OVERCOMER, WAR ROOM, COURAGEOUS, FIREPROOF, FACING THE GIANTS, and FLYWHEEL. In 2021, the Kendrick Brothers released two films: COURAGEOUS Legacy, and SHOW ME THE FATHER, their first feature-length documentary, for which he served as an executive producer and writer. Alex is an executive producer, co-writer, and plays the role of Shawn in LIFEMARK, which opened in theaters in September 2022. Their newest film, THE FORGE, is scheduled for a theatrical release by Sony Pictures on August 23, 2024. Alex co-wrote the New York Times bestselling books The Love Dare, The Resolution for Men, and The Battle Plan for Prayer
In 2002, Alex founded Sherwood Pictures with the blessing of senior pastor Michael Catt, and began production on their first movie FLYWHEEL with his brother Stephen. Alex wrote, directed, produced, and acted in the film with the help of 60 church volunteers. The DVD went on to sell over a million copies. After an overwhelming response, he partnered with his brother again to write and produce FACING THE GIANTS. Alex once again acted and directed the film, which was picked up and distributed by Provident Films, a branch of Sony Pictures.
Facing the Giants grossed over $10 million in box office receipts. The DVD was later released in 56 countries and has sold over 4 million copies. In 2007, Alex and Stephen wrote the screenplay for FIREPROOF, and shot it in Albany with Alex directing and Stephen producing. The film was released in September 2008 and grossed over $33 million at the box office, making it the highest grossing independent film of 2008. Fireproof has since sold over 5 million DVDs. Alex and Stephen then wrote COURAGEOUS in 2010, with Alex once again acting and directing. The film made $34.5 million at the box office before becoming the #1 DVD release in America. The DVD is now in 76
countries. More than 15,000 churches have used the movies for ministry and outreach in their communities. In 2014, Alex co-wrote and directed WAR ROOM. The film was released theatrically in August of 2015 and became the #1 movie at the box office. In 2018, he and his brother wrote the screenplay for OVERCOMER, with Alex acting and directing and Stephen producing. The film was released theatrically in 2019 and debuted at #3 at the box office, eventually bringing in $35 million. It was also #1 in Brazil, and gave Alex his third consecutive A+ Cinemascore as a director, which is extremely rare. To date, Alex has received over 30 awards for his work. Alex and Stephen served as Executive Producers of the 2018 FamilyLife project, LIKE ARROWS. In 2021, the Kendrick Brothers released two films: COURAGEOUS Legacy, and SHOW ME THE FATHER, their first feature-length documentary, for which he served as an executive producer and writer. Alex has been a featured speaker at marriage, filmmaking, and men’s conferences across the US, including five national simulcasts. He has spoken at churches, universities, film-festivals, and numerous seminars in America, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Puerto Rico.
Alex has been interviewed by Good Morning America, ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, Fox News, CNN, Dr. Phil, USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and a host of other television, radio, and print outlets. Alex graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor degree in Communications. He also attended Bryan College in Dayton, TN, and the New Orleans Baptist Theological
Seminary for additional study. He served on the ministerial staff at Sherwood Baptist in Albany, Georgia for 15 years and as a college minister at Roswell Street Baptist in Marietta, Ga.
Alex and his wife, Christina, live in Albany, Ga. with their six children and are active members at Sherwood Church.
