Shermichael Singleton is an American political strategist, writer, and CNN Political Commentator with a multifaceted background that spans politics, media, and public speaking.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Singleton moved to Dallas, Texas at age 10, where he developed an early interest in politics. His educational journey began at Morehouse College, the only all-male Black college in the U.S., where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
His career in politics includes working on the presidential campaigns for Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, and Dr. Ben Carson. Singleton has also served as a consultant for high-profile clients and political candidates, including those running for Congress (House/Senate) state, and local offices across the country. His analytical skills were honed at America Rising, a Republican opposition research firm. He is known for his public speaking engagements and has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Politico, The New York Times, The Washington Post, BuzzFeed, The Huffington Post, BET, and C-SPAN, among others.
Singleton was one of the ten African-American individuals appointed to Senior Executive Service (SES) political positions and is the youngest appointed to an SES role in the history of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he served as the youngest deputy chief of staff in the agency’s history.
In 2019 he co-hosted Consider It, a digital show that focused on culture and politics by Facebook (Meta) and Vox Media. He also co-created and hosted Screen Share on MSNBC Peacock, under the special projects division for MSNBC in 2022, leading up to the midterms. He’s guest-hosted numerous shows, including for former MSNBC peacock host Zerlina Maxwell, and live shows for MSNBC anchor Katie Phang. Additionally, he’s guest anchored for Nexstar-owned digital show ’Rising,’ under The Hill, its digital news publication.
Singleton was a contributor to The Hill where he wrote weekly columns, and also wrote for the Boston Globe as an opinion writer. His columns have also been featured in The Washington Post, among other papers.
Shermichael hosts a weekly SiriusXM radio show, on SiriusXM Urban View on Saturdays from 2 to 3 PM EST, where he reaches hundreds of thousands of listeners each week.
