Extending Support to Those Dealing with Trauma
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to speak at NubAbility, a sports camps for limb-different youth ages 4-17.
At the closing ceremonies for the camp, a young boy (maybe 9 or 10) stood up at the front of the room and bravely revealed that the cancer which had taken his left arm had returned in his lungs. And in a beautiful moment of solidarity, this room full of kids – all of whom are dealing with their own struggles- encircled this boy, prayed for his strength through this process, and reminded him that he wasn’t alone.
Children inherently understand that we are made to do life together. Today, let’s follow the example of these campers and extend this reminder to those who are struggling with trauma around us: You are not alone.
