Where can you find Bea Arthur and Elaine Stritch dueting? Stephen Sondheim conducting a sing-along? Mel Brooks starring in The Producers? Only in Forbidden Broadway, the irreverent, ever morphing parody now turning 20.
This long-running, Off-Broadway satirical revue began over a decade ago and has since spread around the world. Forbidden Broadway is a musical comedy revue that satirizes Broadway's biggest shows and stars with parody lyrics set to popular tunes. With its rapid-fire delivery, ability to present 10-20 musical sketches within the course of a 60 minute show and its huge array of costumes and prop gags, Forbidden Broadway is a small show that creates a huge impact. Incorporating over 20 years of material written by Gerard Alessandrini, it roasts such celebrities as Yul Brenner, Barbra Streisand, Chita Rivera, Richard Harris, Phyllis Diller and such shows as Cats, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. The wide range of repertoire covers everything from the most current material and inside jokes that Broadway aficionados will enjoy to universally-known plays and stars that will be understood and enjoyed by audiences everywhere. On stage there are two male and two female players and a pianist who utilizes a huge variety of costumes and props. The show is always funny and entertaining and has been performed for such corporate clients as The Equitable Life Company, Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Hearst Publications, the American Bar Association, Dribeck Importers and many others. Forbidden Broadway is currently performing a show celebrating the groups 20th Anniversary.
