Leadership with a Twist of Yoga

Conflict is part of life. Twists and turns are part of the creative process. Tension on guitar strings makes magnificent music.

Remember this when others are doubting your direction or when people disappoint you or let you down. Are you strong enough to be gentle with their transgressions? Adversity is necessary for growth, so can you be reasonable about small imperfections?

Creativity always includes a chaotic process. It can be an annoyance, and it can even doom your endeavor. It can also be just the friction you need to polish your project into shiny brilliance.

What do YOU do with conflict?

Stevie Wonder and Surrender
Surrender isn’t something normally taught in leadership trainings. But here is my take on it:It was my day off when our news director called and said, "Stevie Wonder is holding a press conference. Will you cover it?" This meant driving a long way into Hollywood. Nothing in me wanted to do it. (I know. This sounds crazy, but in those ...

The Day I Called Jeff Bezos (in his garage.)

But you have to self-publish." His words were a death blow. Self-publish? That's for losers. "If it is that good, why self-publish?" I asked him. ...

If the Solution is Simple
Is Ayurveda for Alzheimer’s? According to Ayurveda, as we get older, we increase in "vata." Vata is the air element. Very simplistically put, air dries you out. Bones become more brittle. Your brain becomes less flexible. Dismiss this if you must, but as Einstein said, "If the solution is simple, then God is answering." Yesterday I ...

Separateness
I volunteered at an Eye Camp in India where I met another woman, also volunteering. She spoke Marathi. I spoke English. We could only speak to each other through a translator. But it didn't matter. We connected and when the eye camp was over, she invited me to her home for tea. Her name was Jijabai and her home was a hut, built with ...

Power & Humility - A Balancing Act
People often ask me, "What does leadership have to do with yoga?" The answer is everything, especially in tech leadership. The tech world (where I conduct leadership development programs) is a highly unstructured environment. If managers can be adaptable and stay balanced, they will succeed. The #1 thing that I have observed that cau...
