Biography

Lawrence Kudlow is consulting chief economist for American Skandia Life Assurance, Inc., a Connecticut-based financial services firm. (He is also chief economist at CNBC.com and Schroder & Co.)
He is also a regular op-ed contributor to the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Times. He is a contributing editor and editorial board member of National Review magazine, as well as economic counsel to the Washington think tank Citizens for a Sound Economy. He is also the author of "American Abundance: The New Economic and Moral Prosperity," published by Forbes in January 1998.

For many years Mr. Kudlow was chief economist and senior managing director of Bear, Stearns & Co. where he was also chairman of the firm's Investment Policy Committee. He has also served as economic counsel to A.B. Laffer & Associates in San Diego, California.
During President Reagan's first term, Mr. Kudlow was the associate director for economics and planning, Office of Management and Budget, Executive Office of the President, where he was engaged in the development of Reagan administration economic and budget policy. Mr. Kudlow served as co-chairman of the Economic Recovery Council in New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman's first election campaign in 1993. He also served as a member of Whitman's transition Budget Task Force. He is a former member of the board of directors of Empower America, a grassroots public policy organization chaired by Jack Kemp, William Bennett and Jeane Kirkpatrick.

He has been a guest on The McLaughlin Group, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, Wall Street Week and other shows. He has authored articles for the Cato Journal and the Manhattan Institute's City Journal.

In addition, he has testified as an expert witness on economic matters before several congressional committees, including the Joint Economic Committee, the Senate Banking Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate and House Republican Party Task Forces on Economic Growth. He has also presented testimony at several Republican Governors Conferences.

In the 1970s Mr. Kudlow was chief economist of Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis, Inc., a New York investment firm. He also served as a staff economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, working in the areas of domestic open market operations and bank supervision.

After his tenure in the Reagan OMB, Mr. Kudlow worked as a private economic consultant in Washington, D.C. During this time he served as a member of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation's Advisory Committee and was the Washington reporter for the fledgling CNN's Business Morning program.

Mr. Kudlow was educated at the University of Rochester and Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He is a member of the Union League Club, the Princeton Club, the Capitol Hill Club and the National Women's Republican Club. Mr. Kudlow is an avid tennis player and golfer. He and his wife Judy live in Redding, Connecticut.
