The Arab Spring and Iran in 2013
Where to?"
In a master lecture at the Institute of World Politics IWP, Professor Walid Phares projected the state of the Arab Spring for 2013. Phares, who has been teaching Middle East studies since 1992 in Florida and Washington and who has authored a dozen books on the region in multiple languages, has published the only book that predicted the Arab Spring of 2011, before it happened, that is in 2010. The title of the book is 'The Coming Revolution: Struggle for Freedom in the Middle East". Professor Phares serves as an advisor to the US Congress and to members of the European Parliament since 2008 and briefs US and European Governments on Terrorism, ideologies and conflicts. In his IWP lecture Phares demonstrated that the West in general and the US in particular were not prepared to project the Arab Spring. They failed to see it coming and they are failing in identifying the positive forces of the upheavals. Worse, Phares argued, the US is partnering with the Muslim Brotherhood and unable to contain the Iranian regime with the current sanctions. Phares projected trends for Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, the Sahel, Sudan, Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon for 2013. This lecture is a trend analysis aimed at providing guiding thoughts for students, faculty, diplomats, media, lawmakers and analysts. It also helps the public better understand the evolution of crises in the region.
Phares on FBC
"Benghazi's facts were blocked to avoid a larger discussion on US policy in Libya and the Arab Spring"
In an interview with Lou Dobbs on the Fox Business Channel Dr Walid Phares, author of 'The Coming Revolution: Struggle for Freedom in the Middle East" said: "The Administration said after the attack in Banghazi we didn't know what was happening, who was behind it and what were their motives. But if this was the case why would the Administration assert that the attack took place as a reaction to a video. What prompted that assessment, who was behind it and why?" Phares added: "it seems that the reason why the information about Benghazi's Terror attack was blocked has to do with avoiding a much bigger discussion, a debate about US Policy in Libya and who did we partner with in the Arab Spring."
Phares to "Real News"
Copts and liberals are shocked by US partnership with the Muslim Brotherhood"
In an interview with 'Real News' on Blaze TV, Dr Walid Phares, author of 'The Confrontation: Winning the War against Future Jihad' said "a majority of Egyptians is not Islamist but a strong ideological minority of Brotherhood and Salafists controls the political microphone, including media and mosques, thus impacts polling in Egypt." Phares added Egyptian liberals and Copts are shocked that the Obama Administration is partnering with the Muslim Brotherhood and giving them prominence and support."
