Amputee World Cup Soccer

I'm back home from the Amputee Soccer World Cup in Mexico.

If you've read my books or seen me speak you might recall that when I was nine, I was going to try out for this local travel soccer team. I loved the idea of traveling to other towns, competing, and most all wearing a uniform. The week of tryouts, though, I was diagnosed with cancer.

I didn't play soccer for many many years--and in fact kinda assumed I'd never play it again. But then I discovered that there is this sport called amputee soccer where people play on crutches like the ones I use to walk everyday.

So anyway, to be able to play as a member of the U.S. Amputee Soccer Team (which I think qualifies as a travel soccer team, right?) and to be able to rep this uniform is not only a great honor, it's the realization of a dream I thought I'd lost.
