I just returned home from the Amputee Soccer World Cup in Mexico.

If you've read my books or seen me speak you might recall that when I was nine, I was going to try out for this local travel soccer team. I loved the idea of traveling to other towns, competing, and most all wearing a uniform. The week of tryouts, though, I was diagnosed with cancer.

I didn't play soccer for many many years--and in fact kinda assumed I'd never play it again. But then I discovered that there is this sport called amputee soccer where people play on crutches like the ones I use to walk everyday.

So anyway, to be able to play as a member of the U.S. Amputee Soccer Team (which I think qualifies as a travel soccer team, right?) and to be able to rep this uniform is not only a great honor, it's the realization of a dream I thought I'd lost.

How I Met My Solemate
My solemate Stephen dropped by my one-man show in LA! We used to live near each other, but ever since I moved to California, we had to mail each other shoes. This was the first time in a couple years that I could give him some new kicks in person

US Amputee Soccer Team
I have the honor of competing on the US Amputee Soccer Team. (In fact, we'll be competing in the Amputee World Cup in Mexico this year!)It's a great honor to represent my country on the soccer field (or "pitch," as purist football fans would say). I also think the sport is kind of funny. Watch this video to see what I'm talking about.
