Live Inspired Vlog 195: Don't Say Sorry!

Instead, Learn from Your Mistakes

Well good morning, my friends!

Welcome to Live Inspired Wednesday morning vlog with John O’Leary- game style today, baby!

You may not be able to see clearly from where you’re watching this video, but in front of me is one of our family’s favorite games. It’s called Sorry!

We love this game. We play it frequently, not only am I capable of playing this at my ripe old age, but my 7-year old, 9-year old, 11-year old, 13-year old, mom- we all play this game.

And it frequently leads to fist-fights and tears.

It’s an awesome board game. There’s a card, though, that frequently is pulled out. And on it is the word sorry.

Sorry with the big exclamation point behind it.

When one of my kids gets this card, they pull it out, they look at it, they smile broadly, they stare typically at me (for some reason I’m the victim of this one almost always), they scream out the word sorry, start laughing.

They take one of my guys from somewhere on the board. They throw him back at the starting line. And then they move their guy to where my guy previously was.

They think it’s great.

They scream out sorry.

But they don’t mean it. They don’t mean it.

When I was a little guy, my dad (who I think the world of; he’s probably watching this video right now), he always said this when we said, “Dad, we’re sorry.”

When we apologized for almost anything.

“Hey, don’t say sorry. Just don’t do it again.”

Just don’t do it again.

I think in life when you’re playing a board game with your kids, it’s okay to say sorry and laugh and throw their person back in jail.

That’s okay.

But in life and in leadership and in our families, I think, yeah we’re called to apologize. We’re certainly called to utilize the word from time to time- sorry.

But more than that, we are called to learn from the mistakes we make and then do life better afterwards.

So in the board game of life, my friends, with this beautiful game in front of me today, I invite you to, yes on occasion, scream out the word sorry and maybe even laugh occasionally, but to also learn from the mistakes we make and continually improve.

To become better versions of ourselves each day going forward.

That’s our calling.

That’s what the Live Inspired community is all about.

I’m honored to have you as part of it!

In our podcast this week, we interview a guy who has grown to such a degree, in particular when you consider where this man came from.

His name is Scott Harrison.

He’s the founder of charity: water.

He’s the author of the bestselling book Thirst.

He’s a friend of mine.

He’s an incredible human being, and I encourage you today to learn a lot more about the book Thirst, about charity: water, and about the man, Scott Harrison.

You can learn about all of that on our podcast, Live Inspired with John O’Leary.

No need to say sorry to me right now, when you go over right now to check out Live Inspired with John O’Leary.

So for this time and until next time, this is John O’Leary.

And this is your day.

Live Inspired.
