Jim McCormick Bio


Jim McCormick has earned five skydiving World Records and skydived to the North Pole as a member of an international expedition. He is a former Chief Operating Officer and holder for both MBA and engineering degrees.


His motivational presentations focus on exploiting opportunities, taking constructive risks successfully and creating a culture of innovation.


Jim presents to both corporate and association audiences. Corporate audiences include sales organizations, support teams, users groups, administrative teams, product development staff, marketing organizations and others. Jim presents to associations at national, regional, state and local area meetings.


Jim's signature presentations, Exceed Terminal Velocity! and The Eight Stages of Flight, are extensively customized to be responsive to the opportunities and challenges facing audience members. Each presentation is crafted to help his clients meet their desired outcomes for their meeting. An artful blend of entertainment and the message the client wants delivered, they are fun, highly motivational, and include dramatic photo and video images.

Since 1996, Jim McCormick has assisted organizations including AFLAC, Accenture, Allianz, Bank of America, Clorox, FedEx, Hewlett-Packard Co., PepsiCo, Rutgers University, Siemens, Unilever, Verizon, Wells Fargo, many associations and emerging companies to improve performance with his presentations.

Jim's insights on performance improvement have been featured in publications including Investor's Business Daily, the Wall Street Journal's National Business Employment Weekly, Presentations Magazine and the San Francisco Business Times.

Jim has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California and an MBA from the University of California, Irvine. Jim served in Washington, D.C. as a member of a Presidential administration where he ultimately became the first non-attorney in the history of the U. S. Department of Energy to serve as Special Assistant to the General Counsel.

Jim has extensive business experience and advanced in his career to become the Chief Operating Officer of the fifth largest architectural firm in the United States. He has taught executive level management courses at San Jose State University.

Jim is a four-time skydiving World Record holder. He skydived to the North Pole as a member of an international expedition and is one of 400 Professional Exhibition Skydivers in the United States.

Jim celebrated his 40th birthday by doing 40 skydives - in one day. On his 45th, it was 45 jumps all in one day. He has done some of the highest altitude civilian skydives in the world - from 31,000 feet.

Jim serves on the Board of Directors of Estes Valley Victim Advocates which helps victims of domestic abuse transition to safe and supportive environments; served as a volunteer fund raising advisor for the Challenge Learning Center which helps teens at risk become productive adults; and is a past president of the National Speakers Association of Northern California.
