What to Do When There’s Too Much to Do

Leaders are so overwhelmed trying to balance the day-to-day operational responsibilities of their jobs, as well as find time to work with their teams and think about strategic initiatives, they struggle with time management and life balance. It's not uncommon for leaders to spend 80 hours a week in the office any more. Enter productivity. If you can figure out how to be more efficient, more organized, and better focused, you can get greater results in less time and get out of the office earlier and home to the people and life you love. There is no need to sacrifice your personal life on the altar of your career when you are productive.

What separates an average salesperson from a high-performing salesperson? They spend
more time on activities that produce sales and less time on those that don't. Simple
concept? Yes, but difficult to implement in reality, because most traditional sales
training doesn't focus on productivity, and "old school" time management techniques
have little application for the salesperson. In this session, you'll learn "real world"

Doing the Right Things Right
How the Effective Executive Spends Time

This presentation is based on Laura’s book of the same title (Berrett-Koehler). As an MBA student, Laura Stack was inspired by Peter Drucker’s classic 1969 book The Effective Executive. But a lot has changed since it was written. And while Drucker’s advice on what to do remains brilliant, he didn’t give much detail on the how. This keynote details how today’s leaders and managers can obtain profitable, productive results with their time by managing the intersection of two critical values: effectiveness and efficiency.

Download PDFEffectiveness, Stack says, is identifying and achieving the best objectives for your organization—doing the right things. Efficiency is accomplishing them with the least amount of time, effort, and cost—doing things right. If you’re not clear on both, you’re wasting your time. As Drucker put it, “There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.”

Stack identifies twelve practices that will enable leaders to be effective and efficient, grouped into three areas where they spend their time,
called 3T Leadership: Strategic Thinking (Business), Teamwork (Employees), and Tactics (Self). For each practice, Stack offers advice from her 25 years in the trenches, working with thousands of leaders globally. You’ll receive scores of new ideas on how you, your team, and your organization can boost productivity.

A Mother’s Story of Her Son’s Death Resulting from Marijuana-Induced Psychosis

Laura shares the story of Johnny’s marijuana addiction from a parent’s point of view, a poignant chronicle of the shocking descent from innocence to eventual suicide. Before marijuana, Johnny was a computer whiz with a 4.0 GPA and a perfect math score on the SAT. He was a funny, charming, handsome young man, with a college scholarship and a bright future. After marijuana, he wasn’t in his right mind. He stole his family dog from the home and threatened to kill it without payment from his mother. With moving candor, Laura traces the first warning signs, their attempts at rehabilitation, her desperation, and his eventual demise. Through this tragic, transparent tale, Stack hopes to use her pain to help parents talk to their children about the dangers of today’s marijuana on the developing adolescent mind and help prevent more senseless deaths.
