In light of the climate change challenges that lie immediately before us, our current educational standards fall far short of fostering the climate literacy needed to face these challenges with confidence and resilience. There is no more important integrative context for learning and climate change education helps us get back to some of those deeper purposes of education that we’ve largely ignored today, such as preparing learners to actively engage in the society in which they live and to better understand what it means to be human. What specifically should we be teaching our youth about climate change to reach climate literacy goals? How do we go about the teaching in order to get our youth to embrace the cause? History reminds us that scare tactics and anti-consumerism messages just don’t work. Teaching Climate HOPE through innovation in sustainability will be the key to our success - let’s discuss why and how!
