Biography
Jeff Fisher is entering his sixth season as the Titans head coach and his first with the Executive Vice-President title. Last season, Fisher became the first head coach in franchise history to lead the team to a Super Bowl after posting a franchise-best 13-3 regular season record.
Along the way, Fisher's team captured the hearts of fans across the Mid-South and earned respect around the league. The Titans made their first postseason appearance since 1993 while displaying a never say die attitude. Last season, the Titans came from behind four times in the fourth quarter to win and also erased deficits in each post-season game.
The Titans' 13-3 record tied Indianapolis and St. Louis for the second-best in the NFL and improved Fisher's five-year mark to 48-42. His 48 victories are second most in franchise's history to Bum Phillips' 59. The 1999 season was Fisher's best coaching job since taking over the head coaching position 10 games into the 1994 season. In the off-season, the team moved into a state-of-the-art training facility and played in front of a packed home stadium for the first time under his reign. Fisher had to adjust without starting quarterback Steve McNair for five weeks, but still kept the team focused on winning.
Fisher's team broke or tied a remarkable 52 team records he also became the first coach in franchise history to win his first three postseason games. Fisher, who guided the Titans to the best record in NFL history among Wild Card teams, became the only team in the AFC to win every home game during the regular and postseason and the only team to defeat the teams with the top records in each conference (St. Louis and Jacksonville). In fact, the 1999 Titans were an impressive 4-0 against teams that won at least 13 games.
Fisher and the Titans defeated AFC Central champion Jacksonville three times last season, handing the Jaguars their only losses. Being a Wild Card team, the Titans had the most difficult route to the Super Bowl. Fisher earned his first postseason victory by defeating Buffalo 22-16, and erased a 16-0 deficit in one of the biggest displays of heart in any second half of Super Bowl history against the Rams. The Titans became only the sixth team to earn a trip to the Super Bowl since the NFL added the Wild Card playoff team in 1978. Fisher guided the Titans to a streak of 13 consecutive wins against AFC Central Division opponents dating back to 1998. It marked the longest streak in the history of the division and the third longest in the NFL since the 1970 merger.
