Arthur Blessitt
Biography

Arthur Blessitt is listed in the Guinness World Records for the 'World's longest walk'. He has carried a 12-foot cross over 38,102 miles which is one and a half times around the earth at the equator. This includes every sovereign nation and major inhabited island group on earth (315). He has walked an estimated 76 million steps and carried a total weight of over 16 billion pounds. Yet he says he feels better than when he started. Arthur says of the journey "Jesus did it", "All glory to God"!

Pope John Paul II welcomed Arthur to the Vatican. Billy Graham walked with him in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the war. Arthur met twice with Yasser Arafat in Beirut Lebanon, General Rafael Eitan commander of the Israeli Army came to greet Arthur on the roadside in Israel, Arthur spent the night in Prime Minister Menachem Begin's house in the Sinai, In Egypt the military governor of the Sinai gave Arthur the "Sinai Peace Medal" and he was welcomed in Cairo by Boutrous Boutrous Ghali who later became Secretary General of the U.N. Arthur prayed with George W. Bush in Midland, Texas in 1984. He has met many heads of state around the world, at the U.N. and at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.

Yet Arthur is really a man among the people of the world. He has eaten and slept in the homes of thousands of people during his walks. He has perhaps touched and shaken the hands of more people in more nations than any person.

In 1968 he made a large cross to put on the wall of his coffee house called 'His Place' on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, California. He began doing short walks along the street ministering to the hippies and the night crowds. In 1969, he felt the call of Jesus to take the cross off the wall and carry it on foot across America. During his days in Hollywood, he also traveled the country speaking at rock festivals and spoke the message of Jesus on stage at huge concerts. He talked with and shared Jesus with Janice Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Dylan and many more.

On Christmas Day 1969, he put the cross on his shoulder and started carrying the cross toward New York and Washington DC. This was a journey that continued to nation after nation until he completed every nation and major island group on June 13th, 2008 on the island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean.

He has walked through deserts, jungles and wars. He as been arrested or put in jail 24 times (not for crimes) taken out to be shot before a firing squad and met with almost every radical group in the world. He was carried the cross in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc.

Arthur loves to share his stories, experiences and lessons learned when he speaks in a way that inspires and encourages to step out 'one step at a time' into their own destiny and purpose in the power of God.

Arthur's wife is Denise Irja Blessitt who has been with him and the cross in 291 nations and island groups. They have been married since 1990. She drove a Land Rover or other autos in front of her husband carrying supplies around the world. Arthur says of his wife "Her total commitment to Jesus, her courageous spirit and her incredible love for me and the people of the world inspired me and strengthened me. I am thrilled to be in her presence and to have the joy of living my life with her." They have one daughter Sophia Isabella Blessitt. Arthur also has six other adult children, Gina, Joel, Joy, Joshua, Joseph and Jerusalem as well as ten grandchildren.

Arthur, Denise and Sophia now make their home in Denver, Colorado.

Arthur says "I love God and I love people, I try to keep it simple." "At the cross, the worse of man met the best of God and there is hope, love, good news and salvation through what Jesus did at the cross."

Arthur goes on to say, "I have seen the cross and me welcomed around the world by the beautiful people. I am more optimistic today than when I started over forty years ago. The world is open!

Arthur concludes by saying "There is only one letter's difference between 'no' and 'go'. The question is not 'if' but 'how'!
