Biography

Sig Hutchinson has been on the front lines of making communities healthy and livable for more than a decade. Starting his career in communications with the Dale Carnegie organization, Sig became a senior instructor for the Dale Carnegie Sales Course for more than eight years before forming his own company to concentrate on professional speaking and sales consulting. Later, Sig used his powers of communication and public speaking to transform the region by leading four bond referendums in Wake County and the City of Raleigh, NC totaling $140 Million Dollars for open space preservation, parks and greenways and continues to be active in the region today. He sits on numerous boards including: Triangle Land Conservancy; Conservation Council of North Carolina and the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Commission for the City of Raleigh. He is also Past Board Chair of Triangle Transit and Chairs the Open Space & Parks Advisory Committee for Wake County.

Sig has also been the driving force behind the creation of more than 150 miles of interconnected greenways within the Triangle as Past President of the Triangle Greenways Council and is known locally as "Mr. Greenjeans." Sig has been honored as "Tarheel of the Week" by the News & Observer, "Volunteer of the Year" by Wake County, "Green Advocate of the Year," by the Triangle Business Journal, and a"Goodmon" Award by Leadership Triangle and the A.E. Finley Distinguished Service Award by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.

Sig continues his professional speaking and sales consulting career as President of Sig Hutchinson Communications, LLC and consults nationally with communities about the value of transit in preparation for voter referendums. He is also co-founder of The Raleigh Downtowner newspaper where he supports a vibrant and growing downtown. His interests include preserving open space, protecting water and air quality, expanding our world class greenway system and promoting an active life style complete with multi-modal transportation options. Sig has a B.A. from Texas Tech University; M.Ed. from the University of South Carolina and lives on a greenway in Raleigh, North Carolina.
