Commercialism, calories and confusion can ruin the joy of the holidays.

But you have a choice!  You can get caught in the hustle bustle to the point where you no longer enjoy the season, or you can make this year special and different from all the other years of rush and stress.

1. Take a few minutes and rethink: What is the real meaning of the holidays?  What do they mean to me?  Share your thoughts with those you love.

2. Enjoy the spirit of this month by taking time to really look at the beauty of the decorations and the symbols of the holidays.

3. Plan you indulgences.  Most of us eat too much during the holidays. It is hard to resist all the goodies. Try being strict with yourself during the week, then on the weekends you can enjoy the treats.

4. Exercise every day to work off the extra calories and stress.  You’ll keep your energy level high and you’ll feel better.

5. Block out 20 minutes each day to be quiet and alone.  Take a walk, read a good book, or soak in the tub.  But find those 20 minutes for peace of mind.

6. Live and shop within your budget.  Don’t pay for this years holiday next year.  It’s the thought of the gift that counts--not the price tag.

7. Take part in the community events.  Join and enjoy your friends and neighbors in the spirit of the holiday.

8. Remember the needy.  Share the wealth of money, talents, and energy that you possess.
