Thank you so much for participating in the governors' spouses' session addressing communication strategies to promote a healthy America during the NGA Winter meeting. We were delighted that you were able to join us to share information about Discovery Health Channel's National Body Challenge initiative. It was a startling, but effective "wake-up call" to hear about the growing epidemic of overweight and obesity, and the prevalence of diabetes among Americans-increasing among young children-and the costs associated with this disease. Your National Body Challenge initiative is providing a wonderful service to families nationwide and helping to begin reversing these alarming trends by educating consumers and parents about the importance of good nutrition and physical activity. Your ideas of having members of our NGA Spouses' Leadership Committee participate in a "pilot" project for Discovery Health Channel's national initiative was also effective, as it demonstrated firsthand how our spouses' group can raise awareness and provide encouragement to individuals who are struggling with these issues in our own states. Again, thank you very much for taking time from your busy schedule to be with us at the NGA Winter Meeting. I look forward to our paths crossing again in the future.
