The Passing of Paul Harvey

By Gov Mike Huckabee, Posted March 2nd, 2009

The death of legendary broadcaster Paul Harvey marks the passing of the most significant voice of the airwaves in my lifetime.  Paul Harvey was beloved and trusted by the American people because his golden voice was matched by his unquestioned integrity.  I listened to him from my days as a child and felt that he created a standard of excellence that was unmatched and untouched.

One of the greatest and most humbling experiences of my life was being asked to substitute for him last summer a couple of times.  I said then that substituting for him made me feel like a Little Leaguer filling in for Mickey Mantle.  He had no peers in the broadcasting world whose career not only stretched over seven decades, but paved new pathways for telling the news of the day in a fresh, honest, and entertaining manner.  America has lost one of its greatest voices of patriotism, virtue, and trust.”
