Michael Reagan Launches 'We Did Build It' Website

Michael Reagan, the son of the late President Ronald Reagan, officially launched a new website on Wednesday dedicated to capturing the stories of American entrepreneurs, who built their own businesses — in direct contradiction to Barack Obama’s wild admonishment that "you didn’t build that.”

Called Wedidbuildit.com, the site greets visitors with a photograph and quotation from America’s beloved 40th president: “Entrepreneurs and their small enterprises are responsible for almost all economic growth in the United States,” reads the quotation from President Reagan.

The site also carries a photograph of President Obama with his now controversial message that has become a major rallying cry for Republicans.

“Polar opposite of my dad’s position, but polar opposite of everybody who’s ever built a company’s position,” observed the younger Reagan in an exclusive interview on Wednesday. “You look at my father, who had to go to college on an 80-child scholarship at Eureka College — ends up becoming president of the United States. He built that. He did that.”

The site, which is free, asks entrepreneurs to provide the name of their companies, the year their business was stated, owner’s name, email or company website, number of employees, and story of how the business was built.

“I’m sure we’ll have stories to tell from many, many people,” said Reagan. “I don’t know where we’ll share it. But it has to at least give people at this point a chance to tell their story. And then we’ll figure out what we want to do with it at a later date.”

He said many businesses in the U.S. were launched by people who lacked a formal education. “Look at the corporations that got built in America today,” he said.

“There’s plenty of corporations out there, plenty of companies out there, that have been built through hard work and hard labor. And so that’s why we put out Wedidbuildit.com so people could tell their story if they want to tell their story. It’s a place for them to go.”

Greg Noack, who oversees marketing at Reagan.com, which powers the new site, added that Reagan.com also owes its existence to America’s entrepreneurial spirit.

“Michael and all of the people at Reagan.com are entrepreneurs,” he explained. “So it has always been our intention to uphold the values of Ronald Reagan at Reagan.com. . . . Certainly if we see an opportunity to share these stories in some way as the list of stories grows we will explore ways to do that.”
