Diane Coyle

Biography

For eight years (1993- 2001) Diane Coyle was the Economics Editor of The Independent, during which time she won the Wincott Award for Senior Financial Journalist of the Year (2000). Before that she worked for Investors Chronicle, as European Editor, launching and editing the European section of the magazine.

Previous positions include Senior Economist, DRI Europe, and Senior Economic Assistant, HM Treasury, where she was responsible for economic analysis and research on monetary and financial issues.

She was educated at Oxford University, where she received a BA (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and at Harvard University , where she was awarded a PhD for her thesis on the behaviour of wages and employment in manufacturing industry.

She is now a director of an economics consultancy, which she founded, she is a member of the Competition Commission, a Trustee of the BBC, and Visiting Professor at Manchester University.

Her many publications include Sex, Drugs and Economics, Texere, October 2002 and Paradoxes of Prosperity, Texere, September 2001. Her latest book is The Soulful Science, Princeton University Press, March 2007.
