Dear Mr. Bolton:
We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for your presentation at our facility on November 10, 2011. As you know, our students are an at-risk population that is often forgotten due to their defiant behavior or their neglected existence.
Your message of hope and motivation was very well received by the residents at WRJDC. One of the students quoted you, “What keeps me going is my faith.” Since this young man is facing some very serious criminal issues, this is a quote he will remember many times. This same youth was impressed with the way you don’t let your disabilities get to you. Your mobility was something that demonstrated your determination to persevere and set a good example for him as he progresses through accepting the consequences of his actions.
As we discussed your visit, two points kept popping up in the conversation: Don’t allow your past, present, or future to paralyze you; Find a passion and follow it. Both of these admonitions are very motivational messages for our students. These children are at a point in their lives that requires an adjustment in their actions and beliefs. In order to direct this change, the community must step up and provide some alternative suggestions.
Your visit was a very effective example of how to accept adversity, move beyond it, and make your own personal success. You demonstrated the need to be proactive rather than reactive, and you did it with style and grace. Thank you for taking the time to visit with us.
