Gary Thomas

Biography

Gary Thomas is a full-time writer and adjunct faculty member at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, where he teaches on spiritual formation. His books have been translated into eleven languages, and include The Beautiful Fight, Sacred Influence, Devotions for a Sacred Marriage (finalist for the 2006 ICRS Book of the Year Award), Devotions for Sacred Parenting, Sacred Parenting, Authentic Faith (which won the 2003 Gold Medallion Award), Sacred Marriage (which now has over 200,000 copies in print), The Glorious Pursuit, Sacred Pathways (chosen by World magazine as one of the top ten books of 1996), and Seeking the Face of God.

Gary graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Western Washington University, and he holds a master's degree with a concentration in systematic theology from Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., where he studied under Dr. J.I. Packer. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Western Seminary (Portland, OR), in 2006.

He has had over 100 articles published by numerous national magazines, including Christianity Today, Decision, Moody, Marriage Partnership, New Man, Discipleship Journal, Charisma, and World, among others.

Gary has been a featured guest on numerous radio and television programs, including Focus on the Family and Family Life Today, and he speaks internationally on the nature of the spiritual life. He is married, has three children, and lives in Bellingham, Washington.
