Our National Catholic Assembly in Albany attracted approximately 250 women from all over the country. Our church has been going through some ?heavy? times. Our mission is poverty in the world, and our speakers spoke accordingly. So, you must realize, it was quite an innovation for us to invite you to speak, not only a Rabbi at a Catholic conference but a comic besides. What a breath of fresh air it turned out to be! What we really needed was a good laugh and you provided the opportunity for us. You were sensitive to the audience and we appreciated your ?clean? humor. Thank you for joining us and thank you for the laughs. In an age where comedy has become angrier, more intellectual, more political, and where there is a certain meanness behind a lot of the material, Bob Alper is a fresh, easygoing, relaxing but, most important, very funny voice. The show was just one and one-half hours of side-splitting laughter. Real credit to Bob for providing what most comedians don't offer ? clean, non-hostile humor. One of the best things that happened at Ocean Park last summer was Rabbi Bob Alper?His sermon on Sunday morning, "The Spirituality of Laughter," with some humor included, was very well received. Bob presented a truly wonderful comedy routine on Sunday evening ? two hours of clean, humanizing humor that kept the audience laughing non-stop.
